Police & Crime Commissioner for West Mercia

On Saturday I was pleased to welcome the Conservative candidate for the Police & Crime Commissioner election on 5th May to Much Wenlock. John-Paul Campion has worked hard in his campaign across Shropshire and I hope that his efforts will prove successful. This is what he says about how we can secure a safer West Mercia. image1

Vote Campion for Police & Crime Commissioner

I’m backing John Campion for Police & Crime Commissioner in the election to be held on Thursday 5th May.

John Campion - Ludlow Golf Club

He is committed to keeping our community safe against threats and responding in an emergency. He will also invest in crime prevention ensuring we tackle the causes of crime.

He will support the reform of the back office functions enabling more money to be diverted to protect front line policing.  He has committed to being open and transparent in how decisions are made and how tax payers’ money is spent.

He pledges to work hard to ensure people feel safer in their local communities. I agree with him that, for too long, anti-social behaviour has blighted our town centres and urban streets as well as rural villages blighted by speeding.

Council tax

Shropshire’s Council Tax will be frozen for 2014/15 – the fifth consecutive year with no increase.

The Police & Crime Commissioner and the Fire Authority have both raised their charge by 1.99%.

The average increase for Shropshire town and parish councils is 4.86%. I understand that Much Wenlock Town Council’s increase will be much lower at 0.42% and Easthope, Shipton & Stanton Long Parish Council’s is 0.02%. Therefore Band D for Much Wenlock will be £1,590.83 and Band D for Easthope, Shipton & Stanton Long will be £1,452.79.
