Last month I wrote that over 100 applicants applied for the ten new affordable homes for rent at Callaughtons Ash. 63 applicants returned “Local Connection” forms to South Shropshire Housing Association, and 27 households were found to have a sufficiently strong connection with Much Wenlock to automatically qualify for one of these properties. Inevitably, 17 householders will be disappointed not to have been selected, but the degree of housing need would have been the determining factor. Some of the remaining 36 households may have a weaker connection, but a local connection nonetheless – maybe to the surrounding settlements.
The Much Wenlock Neighbourhood Plan commits the Town Council to work with Housing Associations to bring forward affordable housing. There is clearly still a demand that has not been fully met by this development, and I am pleased that the Town Council has agreed to liaise with Connexus (formerly Shropshire Housing Group) about the next steps once these properties are occupied.
