Much Wenlock Neighbourhood Plan

At a public meeting that I called this month, Shropshire Council planning officers explained how the Neighbourhood Plan might work in practise. There were a number of questions from the attendees about affordable housing – one of the key elements of the Plan.

A dialogue with a housing association was proposed. This community-led approach, pioneered right here in Shropshire, could work in parallel with a Community Land Trust, as proposed by Much Wenlock Town Council.

This could provide real choice and control, for instance ensuring that the houses are occupied by local people. If you are willing to help or are interested in learning more about being part of a working group, becoming a trustee or being on a design panel, please contact me.

If you are a landowner who would like to discuss the potential of this initiative with Shropshire Council’s Housing Enablement Team, please call 01743 252428 or email maria.howell@shropshire.gov.uk.

Much Wenlock and Shipton Local Joint Committee

Shropshire Council’s Local Joint Committee for Much Wenlock and Shipton will be considering its future when it meets on 16th July. The Committee comprises local councillors but it is your meeting. Please come along to Shipton Village Hall to hear and question Kate Garner, Shropshire Council’s Locality Commissioning Manager, and to learn more about superfast broadband rollout in our area.

Roadworks in Sheinton Street

As I predicted a few weeks ago, the A4169 Sheinton Street, near Station Road, had to be closed for urgent sewer replacement works. These were completed and a manhole constructed so that future access may be easier. Despite careful planning, there was criticism of the diversion arrangements and I am holding a meeting shortly to see what lessons can be learnt.

You may recall that the gas main replacement works on the Broseley-Bridgnorth B4373 overran by some weeks last year. The compensation paid by National Grid Gas will fund a number of highways improvements in the areas affected. For Much Wenlock, this will benefit Merrywell Lane where I anticipate some 300 yards or so of the road will be completely overhauled during the school holidays this summer. Please watch out for further news.
